Create a new type of in-app "reminder" icon for mobile app

i want an in-app icon designed for "reminders". instead of calling this function "reminders", I am calling it "beacons". I need an icon which looks like a lighthouse (hence beacon). this will be an in-app which will sit in a menu bar on a smartphone ... this should be the same size as Facebook icons such as newsfeed, friends, chat ... which are found on the menu ... this will be grey colour ... however, I would like to integrate the concept of having a reminder waiting which is to be ... so in other words, when there is a reminder waiting, part of the icon lights up in ... when there is no new reminder, the icon is only ... the design should be simple with relatively think ... something that might appeal to young ... thanks
